10 Questions to Consider When Identifying Your Customer Audience

How well do you know your audience?

When writing and speaking about the work you do, it’s important to consider with whom you’re trying to connect. If we don’t consider our audience, then we run the risk of having a long-winded, uneventful, one-sided monologue.

The thing about monologues is that the audience has little to no opportunity to engage with the speaker, and it usually isn’t clear how the speaker wants the audience to act or react.

I encourage you to spend some time this week thinking about who your brand wants to reach.

Here are 10 questions to consider when identifying your customer audience:

  1. How would you describe the people who you’re trying to reach? Who are the people who currently love, will love, and should love your brand?

  2. How do they spend their day? Their night?

  3. What do they want?

  4. What do they need?

  5. What do they value and hold dear?

  6. What blogs, podcasts, tv shows, magazines, newspapers, etc., do they follow?

  7. How do they want to feel?

  8. How would they describe their experience working with you---or using your product, service, etc.--- to a friend?

  9. What is their greatest challenge?

  10. What barriers exist that could potentially cause them to hesitate from working with/hiring you/buying your product?

I’d love to hear from you! Do any of these questions surprise you? How? What are some of your answers, and how will this information help you connect with your audience?

Tell me in the comments below.
